1 google search result for me

Filed under: Technology, website — bigred @ 12:24 pm

Thanks, to my miss-spellings. (I really wasn’t paying attention when I posted) I have the #1 result on Google for “sega satern” It should have been “sega saturn”, but oh well. Big Red’s place is moving on up.

I also found out that ??Muskegon AirFair?? was ranked #5. Too bad that link doesn’t exist anymore and i don’t think I can symbolic link it because its gallery2. If anyone knows a fix to this problem, let me know and I??ll try to fix it.

All these fun results were found because of the Google sitemaps that I started using. http://www.bigredsplace.com/?p=137 Google has updated there beta sitemap stuff and now it seams to be working a little better too.

Great weekend besides traffic.

Filed under: General, Photos, website — bigred @ 9:02 am

Well, the long weekend is over and now back to the work. Woo-Hoo short week.

Weekend was great. Made it up to the UP. That??s the upper peninsula of Michigan if anyone doesn??t know. There was a little town called Gladstone. I stayed there with family but made day trips all over the place. That means there was too much driving this weekend but took tons of pictures. I plan to upgrade the gallery soon. (Of course I say this just for fulljeff.) I tried taking some engagement photos of family while I was up there and those will soon be up too in a different gallery.

The RSS feeds of the photo gallery are not working at the moment, so I think I have to fully re-install the gallery today. Something hasn??t been right since I moved to a new server and at the same time I made an upgrade to gallery.

Anyways. Busy weekend is over, (discovered) photo website is broken, and forgot my pen drive with all my work on it. Bad start to the short week :| .

.NET fun

Filed under: Technology, programming — bigred @ 8:59 am

I??ve finally gotten some time to work with .NET and have some fun with it. I??ve been working on some utilities for work. It??s only a small windows form but with hopefully lots of function and room to grow. I??ve finally learned about the .config file. This is just an XML file that can hold all the settings for your program. I created a settings page that allows you to make your basic changes. That page will dynamically change with all the updates made to the XML file.

The biggest problem with using .NET in my department is the fact that we use Windchill which is a java based program and that is the only language anyone really knows in this department. That makes it hard to have code reviews which in turn makes it harder for my programs to make it out to production.

Regardless, .NET is fun and easy and anyone stuck using java should look into using C# instead.

Novell Still Has It and Mozzila Open Source projects to the rescue

Filed under: Technology, programming — bigred @ 8:09 am

After working with an LDAP and having tons of problems with .NET??s Directory.Services, I did a search and found out about Cool Solutions. Cool Solutions is a bunch of open source projects that Novell is working on. One of those projects was the LDAP Libraries for C#. After using there .dll and setting following their code examples I was up and running with my LDAP. I??m not what Novell did, but it got the job done and it was pretty simple to do so.

EDIT: I found some problems with the LDAP server and after IT made the changes, Directory.Services did work. Regardless, Novell??s worked first without having to make changes to the Server. In the future, I will keep my eye on them.

If anyone is working in java, I HIGHLY recommend looking into Mozilla??s LDAP classes. You actually have to compile the source code first, but its MUCH easier to use instead of the standard JINDI classes that Java offers.

Don’t agree with this vista review.

Filed under: Complaint, Technology — bigred @ 9:08 am

I don’t agree with everything in this blog posting. This guy must be a hardcore MAC guy or something. He shot down basicly everything in Vista.

Hardware requirements for Vista. Honestly who gives a flying F$*!K. At this point in time, you need to live in the now, not the past. Vista is not for your Packard Bell 486. I give this guy’s review 2 frowny faces. :( :(

“There’s an old saying your either with us or your against us”. This guy is against microsoft. I hope he wasn’t writing the damn thing on a IIS server.

screen shots make me want to get it…too bad its a long wait yet.

Season Finally of Greys Anatomy better watched alone

Filed under: Complaint, tv — bigred @ 11:17 am

So at start of Fall 05, I started watching Grey??s Anatomy. (Thanks a lot girl friend). I thought that show would be corny and typical. However I was surprised that the writers were able to make it a witty on your toes subtle comedy with the every once in awhile emotion and sexual tension breaker.

So first about my experience lasts night, then a review on the episode.

Guys, what ever you do, DON??T watch TV with women. I get stuck sitting in a room full of estrogen and its spurting out all over the place as I??m trying to watch the damn TV. I watch TV because its enjoyment. I don??t think the characters are my family and will not cry for them or have emotion for them. They aren??t my family and they would never cry for me, why would I cry for them. So, these darn girls get way TOOO involved with their TV shows. It??s funny that they??ve turned me on to watching the show but now I feel like I better have to start watching it by myself, so I don??t need to listen to whimpers and then hear how they have to eat ice cream, and read Cosmo to feel better.

Now for the review.

Last night was the final episode for the season. I think only an hour and 15 minutes were really needed. The first hour was good, and the next 15 minutes broke down all the main characters and summed up there whole life for the whole season. There was some great writing then. After that it should have ended. None of the characters that should have been together got together and the end result was a doctor cheating on his wife with a much younger girl (Grey). Of course this goes to America saying that ??well, if they do it on TV, I guess it??s ok for me to do it in real life.?? I wish shows could sometime give a more positive message rather than trying to get the HIGHTEST possible ratings. The show was doing great and will still have viewers in future, I just was hoping that they (the writers) were going to end it with some better morals.

Too anyone that watches I do have to say that I really do feel bad George. I hope he gets the girl in the future. I think he??s the rock of the show and offers the most comic relief out of everyone.
