Take Back the Beep

Are you tired of wasting time  with cell phone voice mails when you call someone and have to listen to the automated voicemail instructions.  EVERYONE knows what to do with voice mail.  You hear a beep you leave a message…

This issue is part of a new Campaign, “Take Back the Beep”

http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/30/the-mandatory-15-second-voicemail-instructions/

These little 15-second waits add up–bigtime. If Verizon’s 70 million customers leave or check messages twice a weekday, Verizon rakes in about $620 million a year. That’s your money. And your time: three hours of your time a year, just sitting there listening to the same message over and over again every year.

If you have a sprint phone you can turn this feature off.
The simplified instructions are
You can disable the mandatory instructions. Hold down 1 for your voicemail, (then press * if you have messages to go back out to the main menu).     From there:

  • press 3 – personal options
  • press 2 – greeting
  • press 1 – main greeting
  • press 3 – add or remove caller instructions
  • press 2 – do not play instructions

Does anyone else have the instructions for the other carriers?…the more blogs that post this information the better our cause.

Twikini is the best Twitter client for Windows Mobile

I’ve been using Twikini for some time now.  I started using it in beta and haven’t stopped.  It’s fast , works well, and comes out with updates frequently for fixes and enhancements.  It’s now out of beta and running on my phone.  I think I tried about 3 other clients and they worked well, but as Twikini got more mature, it only got better.  A few features that I like are how you can easily reply to users or retweet by simply sliding to the left or right.  Another nice feature is the ability to attach links easily for photos photos.  I haven’t used the location yet so I can’t really speak for how well that is, but I don’t really think people need to know where I’m at or really give a hoot where I’m at anyways.  Again, if your looking for a very fast and reliable client.  Get Twikini.

Anyways…go to the following link and get it now if have a Windows Mobile phone.  Also check out the other software trinkets software has on their website.  Looks pretty interesting.

Microsoft Lets go…

I’ve been a fan for a LONG time of Microsoft Products.  Not because I like them because of the name brand and not because I hate any other company.  (Apple).  Reasons I use Microsoft products are:

They’ve been cheap.
I like building PC’s.
They make great game consoles (even if they do over heat).
They work well together…  Windows mobile / PC / XBOX 360 / Media Center.

Now something that is bugging me is Windows Mobile.  I’m tired of waiting.  I want a better UI and I want it easier to use.  I want an OS for my computer that is easy to use.  When I plug in my smart phone I want the OS to easily work with the phone.  This has not been the case lately for me.  I wish Mobile 7 was being released this year :(

The MAIN reason I’ve liked Microsoft products so much is that I don’t have to buy their hardware.  The Winds need to change for the company.  I know they’re huge and nothing, not even David could hurt this Goliath of a company.  But let’s get real.  I want FUN products.  I’m willing to spend money on other peoples hardware to get a fun product if I have too.

Just my rant today as I’m reading the keynote talk from Apple on the new IPHONE 2.0 junk.

also… IPOD or ZUNE?  What works better for you all out there?

Moving to a new phone

Well its been a good long 5 1/2 years with Alltel.  They have been pretty good for the most part.  I hate to leave them, but my needs have changed and i’m getting a pretty good deal.

Right now I’ve decided to pay a little extra for extra mins.

My new plan will be with sprint.

1250mins
Unlimited Data Access
Unlimited Text Messages
night and weekends 7pm
and standard other junk

$49.99

I may lower the mins down to 500 for $30.

The phone is the new HTC Touch.  I’m actually still waiting for it to arrive at my house because not of the stores in my area had it.  I ended up ordering online.
